Parents & Family Center

Parents play the most important role in the life of their child. Although there are many influences in the world today, (media, internet, peers) parents still maintain a powerful role.

Research suggests that youth who have positive relationships with their
parents, who see their parents as caring, and feel they can talk to their parents
about problems are less likely to use alcohol and drugs,
attempt suicide, have low self-esteem or use unhealthy strategies
 to control their weight.

More importantly, parents who monitor their children's
activities, friends and behaviors have teens with lower
rates of risky physical and sexual behaviors and lower
rates of drug, alcohol and tobacco use than their peers.

Parenting can be rewarding but challenging. In order to
help parents deal with the challenges of today, this
section of the website provides the most up to date
information on important topics.
